The 3 parts of a Black & White “relationship” session.

We tell stories of the families we photograph. And our concept is a little different than what you may have experienced before.

How?

We layer the story we are creating in three distinct layers, each having a purpose.

The “main” portrait that we call the Establishing image is what you might expect; it is the family portrait. Its purpose is to show everyone together. It becomes the centerpiece of a grouping in your home as it defines the entire family.

The next layer is what we call Abbreviations. In this layer, we create more emotional images of each child with a parent…just those two in the portrait. This is where we get images that go straight to the heart as we can concentrate on drawing out the best expressions of each of the children who are now the center of our attention without competition from their siblings.

The final layer we strive to achieve in every black and white session is what we call Moments. These are unexpected, spontaneous moments (thus the name) and happen very quickly. When we catch them. they provide a more complete story of the family and add interest to the grouping.
