Overcoming Excuses: Why Those 12 Years Matter
While many of you, as parents, understand the importance of capturing your child's milestone portraits, life often gets in the way, leading to the "Twelve Year Gap" – the period between ages 5 and 17 when it’s simply easier to delay (or completely miss doing) these portraits.
Here are some common excuses we hear and a few thoughts to hopefully help you overcome missing out on these significant years.
Excuse 1: "They're just going through an awkward phase." Solution: Embrace the awkwardness! Those awkward phases are a natural part of growing up, and they'll be cherished memories one day. We would love the chance to capture your child's unique personality and beauty, even during those seemingly awkward years.
Excuse 2: "We're too busy with extracurricular activities and schedules." Solution: Make these portraits a family tradition. Just as you schedule sports practices, music lessons, and other activities, schedule a dedicated time every year or two for a portrait session. Treat it as a priority, not an afterthought.
Excuse 3: "Professional portraits are too expensive." Solution: It’s an investment that pays off as you preserve your family’s legacy. These are memories that last a lifetime and are irreplaceable. We don’t cut any corners to “save a dime” or as Tim often says, “We refuse to deliver any of our work with an apology.”
Excuse 4: "They don't like having their picture taken." Solution: We know how to make the experience fun and engaging-just leave it to us and take our lead. We can capture genuine expressions and emotions, even with reluctant subjects.
Excuse 5: "We have plenty of snapshots from our phones." Solution: Smartphone photos are convenient, but lack the artistry and quality of professional portraits, especially a breathtaking portrait to hang on your walls to enjoy for generations. Keep those phone “pics” reserved for the candid moments.
Don't let these excuses rob you of the opportunity to document your child's unique journey. The "Twelve Year Gap" represents a missed opportunity to preserve invaluable memories that can never be recreated.
It’s time! Ensure that every stage of your child's growth is celebrated and immortalized for generations to come.
In our next post, we will give you some ideas to turn your phone snapshots into printed material. A printed piece is always the goal to best preserve your memories.
