The Twelve Year Gap…the lost years.
As professional children and family photographers with four decades of experience, we've noticed a concerning trend – what we call "The Twelve Year Gap."
We see parents enthusiastically capture a milestone portrait at age 5, but then, we don't see them again until their kids are high school seniors at 17.
It's as if an entire decade has been lost with no visual record of their growth and development.
These years are a fleeting and precious time, filled with countless moments of wonder, growth, and transformation. Each year brings new milestones, from losing the first tooth to mastering a new skill or discovering a newfound passion.
These moments shape the person your child will become, and capturing them through portraiture is a priceless gift for you as the parent now and for your child later in life.
By skipping those twelve years between ages 5 and 17, you may be missing out on capturing some of the most transformative and meaningful moments of your child's life.
Ages 6-8: The Loss of Baby Teeth and the Emergence of a New Look.
During these years, children's faces undergo a remarkable transformation as they lose their baby teeth and their permanent teeth emerge, forever changing their smile and facial features. Faces often become more sculpted as a preview of what is to come. And…don’t worry about missing teeth. We love them showing!
Ages 9-11: The Blossoming of Personality and Interests
As children enter their pre-teen years, their personalities and interests begin to blossom. This is a pivotal time when they discover new passions, hobbies, and dreams that shape their future selves.
Ages 12-14: The Transition into Adolescence
The tween years mark a significant transition into adolescence, with physical and emotional changes that can be both exhilarating and challenging:-) Capturing this phase allows parents to cherish the journey of their child's growth and development.
Ages 15-17: The Cusp of Adulthood
These final years before adulthood are a precious time as teenagers navigate the complexities of self-discovery, independence, and preparing for their future. Portraits during this phase immortalize the essence of their youth before they embark on their next chapter.
By understanding the significance of each of these stages, our goal is to encourage you to capture your child's growth through regularly scheduled portrait sessions, creating a treasured legacy for both yourself and your children in the future.
