7 Things Parents Need to Know

What do you need to know for a successful and smooth portrait session of your child?

ONE: We may ask you to leave the room (or hide) if the child is comfortable with us as we can’t compete with mom, dad or grands for their attention. We find kids will constantly look towards others in the room for approval, so it's best to hide away.

TWO: Before the portrait session, don’t ask the child to "practice" a SMILE. We find it causes the child to offer up a frozen and unnatural smile in the session that is hard to overcome. We are looking for a natural expression that is often pensive and timeless.

THREE: Tell your child or children they are going to have a fun time with Mr. Tim and Ms. Bev and leave it at that. We'll make sure they actually do:-)

FOUR: Make sure the child is well-rested, fed and it’s a good time of the day for them.

FIVE: Don’t let the child (toddlers especially) down on the ground to start running around. After that happens, it will be a struggle to pick them up for the portrait. If possible, walk into the studio with them in your arms, dressed and ready to go.

SIX: Photo sessions may be stressful at times as you want everything to be perfect. Rest assured, we have done this for a long time and are comfortable with kids. We want Mom and Dad to be at ease and not worry about how their kids behave. If you stay in the room as we are working with them, just relax and rest assured it will all be fine! Because it will.

SEVEN: Be patient. We will work until we are sure we have amazing portraits of your children that you will LOVE!

Pre-planning will help us in the session. We will meet before your portrait session to talk about the details below so that we are prepared and can move quickly into the session as soon as you arrive.
